Deck and rebar steel for the next stage of the city's coastal link.

STRATA has won a contract to supply 120,000 tonnes of steel for the next stage of Mumbai's coastal road, the 10.6 km link between Worli and Versova.
The order covers deck plate for two cable-stayed bridges and rebar for the sea wall and tunnel portals. Deliveries start in March 2027 and run for 22 months.
A repeat customer
It is the second time the city has chosen STRATA for the project. In 2024 we supplied 45,000 tonnes for the southern section, including the steel for the Bandra–Worli connector, which opened to traffic last year.
The new order was won in an open tender with seven bidders. The city's engineers scored suppliers on price, delivery record, and the carbon footprint of the steel.
Lower carbon, same strength
Around half of the steel will come from our electric arc furnaces in Luleå, made from recycled scrap and fossil-free power. It has a footprint about 70 per cent lower than the global average for structural steel.
The rest will be rolled at our mill in Oxelösund and shipped from Luleå harbour on our own vessels, with a stop in Rotterdam to combine loads.
Built for the sea
Both bridges sit in salt water and must last 100 years. The deck plate is a weathering grade developed with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, tested for two years at a marine exposure site near the route.
Mumbai chose us again because the first bridge was delivered on time and to spec.
